Christmas Concert on Church Street

Winter in McCauley is about to get warmer! Over the next four months, some great partners have pooled their resources to present a series of community concerts to gather neighbours in McCauley to celebrate local arts and culture at a new, unique venue on Church Street.

The venue is called Studio 96, and it is located inside the former St. Stephen’s Church at 10909 96 Street, which is now owned and operated by E3 Architects. Studio 96 is a new gathering space for events in the community, and they have partnered with McCauley Revitalization, E4C, Friends of Church Street, and Heart of the City Festival to organize some high quality programming during Edmonton’s cold winter months, to get people out of their homes to celebrate winter, and to invest in the diversity of local talent we have to offer on Church Street.

The first event is a Christmas Concert on Church Street, taking place on Friday December 19 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. This concert will be hosted by Dan Taylor and the Friends of Church Street. Dan Taylor is a Pastor and comic based right here in McCauley! After over a decade of experience speaking all over Western Canada, Dan began to make an impact on the comedy scene as well. He has been named SiriusXM Edmonton’s top comic and opened for Russell Peters at Rexall Place this fall, as well as performing at JFL42 in Toronto. Drawing on his experience as a husband, father, social worker, pastor, and barista, Dan’s unique background enables him to connect with a diverse audience.

Christmas Concert on Church Street will also feature live music from some fantastic neighbourhood acts. Steven Johnson will bring his love of Christmas music and his gorgeous guitar soundscapes to start off the evening. Inner Voice is a gospel choir which draws together people from all walks of life to sing songs of hope, compassion, and justice, and to tell the stories of those living in poverty. Inner Voice meets regularly on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. at the Boyle Street Plaza if you’d like to join them in song! To close the concert evening, Linda Kropf and Danielle Almond will perform their first show as Northern Hearts, playing easy listening music for the soul and some sing-along Christmas favourites.

Admission for this concert is free, but donations are welcome. The proceeds are going to develop the new Studio 96 space. Coffee, desserts, and other light refreshments will be served and there will also be a small cash bar.

Christmas Concert on Church Street is part of the McCauley Winter Warmers concert series. Stay tuned for more details about the other three upcoming concerts in this series, including:
