Dan Taylor: What Happened Next

As reported in our September issue, McCauley’s Dan Taylor was named Edmonton’s Top Comic in the Sirius XM’s Canada’s Top Comic contest.

Taylor opened for Russell Peters at Rexall Place on September 18. “Opening for Russell Peters was amazing,” he says. “He and his whole crew were kind and great to my whole family. The crowd was very nice and it was all around better than I could have imagined.”

Winning the Edmonton portion of the contest, combined with the fact that Taylor is a pastor (not a profession typically associated with stand up comedy), made quite a media buzz. Following BMC News breaking the story, Taylor was interviewed in the Edmonton Journal, National Post, Global Television, and the Sun News Network. However, he says that his sudden fame has not affected his life.

“I have a very temporary and minor league fame. My story did seem to catch people’s imaginations for a while and the attention was fun. It has not really affected my day to day life at all,” he says.

On September 25, Taylor competed in Toronto with the seven other finalists. Unfortunately, he did not place. However, he considers the experience a very positive one. “Toronto was fun, the audience at the Randolph Theatre was very nice and It was great to be included in that festival. It was great meeting the other comics as well and they were all very nice.”

So, what’s next for Dan Taylor? “I have no idea what’s next,” he says. “I have some shows coming up and a little more travelling to do, and we’ll see. I still like getting up on stage so we’ll see where that takes me.”
