Family, Friends, and Freedom

“Family, friends, and freedom to choose how to celebrate are the most important part of the holiday season.”- Ian Young

It is a holiday season, when traditions vary as do cultures and observances. That is what makes us who we are. Whether you recognize a particular date or celebrate a certain way, this is what makes us all individuals, and every person should be proud of their traditions, heritage, and culture.

As my family is very spread out now with relations all over, the most important part of the season is spending time with the ones still residing near. It is an amazing feeling to share with my sisters. We are all calm, happy, and excited to see each other. As time goes on, our families now having their own families, we three siblings still manage to get together, exchange gifts, share a meal, talk, and enjoy each other’s company.

In the building in which I reside, it is like a big family so nobody ever feels alone. There are some very talented decorators here. A festive tree is always put up in the lobby, which volunteer neighbours trim and decorate. You can always count on my neighbour, my adopted” Auntie Sharon,” to showcase her beautiful handmade wreaths, and drop off a gift from Santa to my pet Maggie every year. (I know it’s you Sharon! You are so kind!) There is even a festive bowl of dog treats in the lobby from “Santa Paws” for every pet owner to give to our pets.

You never forget traditions and the warmth they bring. No matter what day you recognize and how you celebrate, remember all of us share the same planet. So, to everyone out there, I bid you a happy season and best wishes for the coming year!
