July & August 2014

Our July/August issue is our annual Summer issue, so you are going to read about what some of our volunteers like the most about this season as well as summer programs going on in the area. We also have our annual Heart of the City coverage in our centrespread. What a cool event that keeps getting better and better every year! A big congratulations to all of the people who helped make it happen.

Fitting an entire month’s worth (sometimes more) of content into 16 pages can sometimes be a challenge. Part of my job is making the decision of what ultimately appears in print. Submissions are not guaranteed to be published. However, here are some hints that may increase the chances of your work getting in.

  • Submit by the deadline. There may not be space for late submissions.
  • Stick to the 500 word upper limit. If it is longer, odds are that it will be edited down anyway.
  • Photographs should be clear and large (send the original size from your camera or phone).
  • Opinions are best served by a Letter to the Editor (max. 300 words).
  • Articles about community news need to be balanced. Avoid making accusations, even if you think they are justified by what you think the facts are.

Have a wonderful summer. See you again in September!
