Senior Activities Update
We have not heard from very many seniors yet, but the suggestions we have heard are below. It seems that there are quite a few activities offered to people in some apartment buildings or housing complexes, but most are not open to outsiders, so we don’t know about them. We are trying to compile a list of places that do offer senior activities, and see where the needs are. If you are a senior and have suggestions for activities you would like to participate in, please call or contact Joanne by e-mail or phone: (780) 641-5415 or jomcneal@yahoo.com.
The Bissell Centre offers a variety of programs mostly for women. Many other activities are possible.
Someone suggested a Senior’s page for Boyle McCauley News.
Suggestions by a lady who worked in a nursing home: she said it is important for people to get out, so they are not “stuck at home.” Activities for those that cannot walk very far: games nights, art classes, walking groups, local trips, cards/bingo, gardens/planting activities.
Thanks for all these suggestions so far – keep them coming.
Joanne McNeal is a McCauley senior who taught at the U of A in art education. She still creates art, sings in a local chorus, and plays violin in a local community orchestra. Most of the summer you can find her working outside in her yard.
