East meets West is a celebration of culture and entertainment from the Chinese, African, and Italian communities in McCauley from August 20-28. The schedule of events has been released – it looks like it is going to be a very busy week!

AUGUST 20
Chinatown Festival
Time: Noon – 8pm
Location: 99 Street & 107 Avenue
This year is the hundredth anniversary of Edmonton’s original Chinatown and The East meets West / Chinatown Festival is celebrating Chinatown Centennial.
Attractions: Cultural Shows, Traditional Chinese Opera,
Dancing, Martial Arts Expo, Arts & Crafts Corner
Food: Bubble tea, Green onion cakes, spring rolls, noodles, Chinese bakeries

AUGUST 21
Tropikana Afrika
Time: 2 – 6 p.m.
Location: Giovanni Caboto Park (95 Street – 108A Avenue)
Come see the African show and listen to the beat of the African drummers.

AUGUST 22
Bocce Tournament
Time: 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.
Location: Ital-Canadian Seniors Association (9911-110 Avenue)
The sport of Bocce is a battle of precision and accuracy enjoyed all over the world! Come out and cheer on your team, or make your own at the first annual VIVE Bocce tournament.
Entrance fee: $20/team (2 players per team)

AUGUST 23-27
Madame Butterfly Opera in the Park
Time: 8 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
Location: Giovanni Caboto Park (95 Street & 109 Avenue)
Mercury Opera Theatre presents Opera in the Park with their rendition of Madame Butterfly. There is a Pre-opera performance-amble that takes place in 4 different locations in Little Italy. Includes wine and beer sampling.

AUGUST 24
Jazz in Gio
Time: 4 – 7 p.m.

Youth Concert

A call out to all youth! Come and listen to some music and get into the summer groove.

AUGUST 27
Belgian Waffle Breakfast and World Market
Time: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Location: McCauley School (9538 – 107 Avenue)
Bring the whole family to experience the World Market. Go shopping with a unique gathering of vendors offering cultural items, handmade creations, gently-used second hand merchandise, and miscellaneous goods.

Viva Italia Viva Edmonton (VIVE)
Time: Noon – 7 p.m.
Location: On 95 Street and in Giovanni Caboto Park (95 street and 109 Avenue)
Come out to the 2nd annual VIVE festival and be Italian for a day! Enjoy Live entertainment, food, Italian car show, food, kid’s corner and yes, more food! Come out August 28 and Mangia! Bevi! Balla!
Attractions: Live Entertainment, Soccer Tournament, Cooking Demonstrations, Wine & Cheese tent, Kid’s Corner, Italian Car show, Tuscany Regional exhibit and some surprises!
