The Joke’s On Them!

p(dropcap) An older woman in McCauley recently had an attempted break in while she was home. Unbeknownst to the intruder, who pulled his hoodie up over his head and exited as soon as he heard her approach, she was able to see his face. Her name is being kept anonymous but she wanted you to enjoy her story.

Two weeks after an attempted break in, for which I had called the police, the suspect walked right by my house as I was leaving in my car. During the break in, he had not seen my face, but I had seen his.

He and his buddy turned down the alley, so I drove the other way to ensure they weren’t targeting my house again. They continued down the alley and I followed them, wanting to see where they went. I was worried that they might notice that I was following them, but they did something that people do in our neighbourhood from time to time to try to assert power. Knowing that pedestrians have the right of way, they sauntered down the middle of the alley rather than move to the side to let me pass. Little did they know they were playing right into my plan! So, I followed them to their house and then went immediately to the police station.

A friend told me she saw the police at that house a bit later, and I have not seen either one of those people since. Many people have found this story amusing and I wanted to share it with the rest of the community. The police came immediately when I called after the break in, and they were delighted to get the information I was able to give them about where the man was possibly living.

I did rather see myself as the cartoon character, “Maxine” who once said, “If you don’t like the way I drive, get off the sidewalk!”
