Beware of Break and Enters
Over the month of July there was a rash of break and enters in the McCauley community. There were 17 incidents of break and enters from July 1 to July 25.
In 2010, there were six incidents. This increase in not being seen in other adjacent neighbourhoods. The Edmonton Police has made several arrests of criminals for break and enter who live in the area but the problem has persisted all the same. This activity can likely be attributed to only a couple of people as the break and enters are very similar in nature, linking the events to the same suspects.
We continue to work on identifying who these suspects are and need your help. If you notice suspicious persons in your neighbourhood call the Police complaint line (780-423-4567) immediately. Inform the call taker about the crime trend that is occurring and provide them with the information about what you are observing:
- location
- description of suspect (as detailed as possible)
- what direction the person is going
- if the person has any type of transportation (vehicle or pedal bike)
- if the suspect has a back pack or any tools with them
While we work together to identify these suspects and bring an end to this crime trend ensure you are taking steps to protect yourself. Here are some tips:
- Lock all doors (including garage doors).
- Install heavy duty dead bolts to your exterior doors.
- Install motion sensor lights in the back and front yards to alert you to the presence of an intruder.
- Lock all gates to your property.
- Secure all of your windows on all levels of your home. For added security, place a rod or piece of doweling in the tracks of the windows to ensure they cannot be opened easily.
- Put all tools and valuables away and ensure they are not visible.
- Trim hedges and trees in order to minimize hiding spots for possible intruders.
- Keep a watchful eye for any suspicious activity on your property or anyone else’s.
Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter.
