Colour Me Pink!

Ian taking part in the CIBC Run for the Cure. Supplied.

On September 30, the streets of downtown Edmonton were paved with pink! It was the CIBC annual Run/Walk for the Cure to End Breast Cancer, which supports survivors and research. This is one of the most successful fundraisers in Canada with 95% of the fundraising going directly into the cause.

Pink was the colour of the day and strength was the theme! My sister, who takes part yearly, organized a team through her business which I joined. I was among thousands who were partaking in this event for either a loved one (in my case my dear friend Ava) or for a community that needs support.

There were people of all ages, as well as pets, and cheerleaders who provided hoots and hollers cheering everyone on! The crowd was excited! We marched, walked, and ran from the China Gates on 97 Street and 102 Avenue through the streets of the Boyle Street neighbourhood, ending back up at Churchill Square!

The final fundraising totals are still rolling in but I am looking forward to next year when I will again participate!
