Overcoming Junk Food Addiction

Have you ever watched a movie that is inspirational but lacking in terms of entertainment? It’s the same thing with food. I love to try a variety of foods or dishes but they may not agree with me. I recently found out that I have some stomach related ailments that may directly stem from my unhealthy habit of indulging in junk food. I volunteer at The Addiction Recovery Centre and I know that I do struggle with junk food addiction that is affecting my health. So, it’s time to pull up my boot straps and get back on my regiment of eating healthy food to recover.

I have always struggled with weight gain like a yoyo bouncing aimlessly up and down a string of endless rope. The crashing feeling in my mind when I know I give in to my cravings for junk food makes way to a wave of emotional distress that leads to depression. That being said, I have a solution to my dilemma of being held captive in a body of unwanted pounds and aches that hurt like nails being hammered into my bones. First, I pray for the strength to give up my junk food addiction. I also have a kind friend named Beatrice, who actually likes to be called Cookie. She inspires me to try to do more home cooking because she herself is a wonderful cook.

For some, the days of home cooked meals and dinner time with family has now become reduced a quick processed meal that you just pop into the microwave. Like the saying goes, you are what you eat. I don’t want to be a heated plate of convenience food with a side dish of chips and a glass of pop. My fine neighbour Archie surprised me one day with roasted chicken and fruit. It was such a blessing and I am grateful for good neighbours and friends and my family near and far.

To treat others as you want to be treated is a way of showing respect. That said, respect your body and eat well and get plenty of rest. We only have one life and need to make an effort to enjoy it as I try to do every day.
