The Rink Shines!

What a successful season so far at the rink! Winter temperatures returning in February meant that our local skating rink was going to be busy. In January, the skating rink was open 20 out of 31 days and we had over six hundred people come out skating. On average, there were thirty people a day who came out to use the facility.

I have always said that the McCauley skating rink is the gem of our community – it just needed to be polished so that it could shine. Well, it’s starting to get its shine back and I only see it getting brighter. Once again our community can’t say it enough: thank you to the many caring people and businesses of Edmonton for helping make our community better.

For lots of you who have been coming by the rink you have probably met some of our rink attendants who may have helped tie your kid’s skates or offered you a cup of hot chocolate. These faces are Grace, Andrew, Shayne, and Rylan to whom I would like to say welcome and thanks for all the great work you do.

I also would like to welcome our new rink manager Lyle Kulchisky better known as “Sparky.” I know a lot of our neighbourhood kids and parents have already met Sparky. He is a wonderful addition to the rink and I can’t thank him enough for all the things he does for the rink and the kids of our community. Sparky worked for the Edmonton Oil Kings and Edmonton Oilers for 34 years and now we are happy to have him in our community.

By the time you read this, our Family Day Skating Party will have taken place. Due to the event coming out well past the BMC News deadline, we will have that story along with pictures in the next edition of the paper.
