The Sound of Music

This play is based on the movie of the same name. It opens with nuns singing in the Abbey. In comes Josee Boudreau as “Maria” singing that song with the famous words: “The hills are alive with the sound of music.”

Marla is sent to the Von Trapp family to look after the children. She falls in love with the Captain, but gets scared so she goes back to the Abbey. The Mother talks to her to, saying that she was not ready to take the vows and become a nun, convincing her go back to the Von Trapps.

Maria and the Captain eventually admit their feelings for each other and get married. However, the Germans draft him for their army, even though his does not want to go with them. Maria makes a plan for them to all escape to Switzerland.

If I was to rate this play, I would give it four and three quarter stars. It runs at the Citadel until May 27.

True Fact:
The real Von Trapp family did escape and returned to Austria in 1945 after the war was over, and sang on different stages.
