Trailer on the Way!

Holes for sewage and electrical being dug for the trailer at McCauley Rink in late October. Paula E. Kirman

As the weather outside starts to get cold, things around the rink are getting hot. If anyone has been by the rink you would have seen the backhoes digging holes for sewage and electrical. The work is being donated by OML Construction so that the trailer donated by Northgate Trailers can be placed with the proper amenities.

The project has been in the making for over three years and it is very exciting to finally visually see it come together. There are many people who have contributed to this project, but without the help of Ted Green, Al Hamilton, and Father Jim to start the ball rolling and keep it going, there wouldn’t be any of this. Once again, thank you – because of your work, the kids of McCauley will have simple things like a bathroom and a place to warm up.

There are still more renovations coming to the rink in the spring. The asphalt will be resurfaced, decking will be added, and plans for players’ boxes are in the works as well.

I have also been in contact with Sgt. Dave Kabyn and plans are being made for the always very popular annual McCauley Cup hockey game with the Downtown beat police on December 28 at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to come down to enjoy a hotdog over the fire, drink some hot chocolate, and strap on the skates for a fun game of shinny hockey.

This year, we will also be offering free skate sharpening at the rink. Look for this service at the McCauley Cup and throughout the skating season.

If anyone has skates or hockey equipment to donate please contact me at (780) 729-4363. You can also contact me with any other questions.
