Wecan More Convenient

Wecan food baskets are affordable and nutritious. Supplied

The City Centre Wecan Food Basket depot is growing, and we are making some positive changes that will improve our service to Wecan customers and community members!

What is the Wecan Food Basket?

The Wecan Food Basket Society operates as a “warehouse without walls” – we buy all our food in bulk and distribute it to our community based depots. Volunteers, working with local churches, community centres, social service agencies, and daycares, staff the depots located throughout the Greater Edmonton area. One day every month, volunteer drivers pick up the food from our supplier, The Grocery People, and take it to the depots. Our volunteers then count, sort, and pack the baskets ready for pick up.

What do I get in a Wecan Food Basket?

Fresh food is the staple of any healthy diet. Our food baskets offer three cuts of frozen meat, three types of fresh vegetables, and three kinds of seasonal fruit every month, along with helpful recipes to prepare healthy meals.

Meat orders are $15 and produce orders are $10. A complete food basket of meat, vegetables and fruit is only $25.

Where do I pay for the Wecan Food Basket each month?

The City Centre Wecan Food Basket depot is based out of the McCauley Boys and Girls Club, located at 9425 109A Avenue. This spot has been our pick up location for years, and now you can drop off your payment to the front desk, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Payment is due by the first Friday each month. Payments can be made with cash, cheque, or money order, and receipts will be issued. Sorry, no debit or credit cards.

Please use the north entrance to the offices – you can’t miss the blue door! A huge thank you to the staff at Boys and Girls Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters of Edmonton and Area, who are our new partners in promoting and serving Wecan customers in Edmonton’s downtown core!
