Latitude 53 is an organization and gallery promoting contemporary art and culture in Edmonton. It has also been the catalyst for numerous recent community events in McCauley. A skating party at the rink on January 26 featured lots of family fun, including a bonfire, music presented by DJs, and, of course, skating.

On January 31, the first Winter Salon was held at Pacific Cafe, featuring local musicians and spoken word artists. The theme for the evening was “Light.” The second salon was held on February 28 at Lotus Soul Yoga, with the theme of “Wind.” The final salon of the year will take place on March 28 at 7 p.m. at the former McCauley School, with a theme of “Cold and Warmth.”

Although Latitude 53 is not located in McCauley (it’s physical address is 10248 106 Street), Executive Director Todd Janes is a resident of the area and the Chair of the Revitalization Steering Committee, a position he has held since October of 2012. These events were made possible by Latitude 53 through the Community Matching Grant that is offered by the McCauley Revitalization Project through the City of Edmonton’s Great Neighbourhoods program.
