A McCauley “Staycation”

McCauley is a community with a world ambience. We have a multicultural menu of lives: African, Italian, East Indian, Vietnamese, Korean, Karen, Jamaican, Chinese, Thai, Aboriginal, Middle Eastern and more. The neighbourhood has a unique, friendly setting where you can taste food and listen to music from around the world.

McCauley is a excellent place to live, work, shop, and dine. It is a place where you can discover many wonderful things. Along 95, 96, and 97 Street you will see churches that were built by the pioneers.

The McCauley Transition Centre on 107 Avenue is where many events and festivals from community, family, and youth groups are held throughout the year.

The East Meets West festival is an annual event at Giovanni Caboto Park and other locations in the community. And don’t forget Heart of the City in June.

These are just a few of the things that take place here. Prepare yourselves with a good pair of walking shoes and large shopping bags to travel to the gift shops, tailors, and special event clothing stores. Then, you can groom yourselves at hair salons and barbershops.

Are you hungry yet? Let’s go to the restaurants, featuring a scrumptious selection of Vietnamese , Chinese, Korean, Italian, Eritrean, Laotian, and Thai cuisine. Listen to songs from local artists and you will be surprised to see at least one of your neighbours as one of the musicians performing. These artists will be performing at the Pacific Cafe on a regular basis. By the time you read this, the first coffeehouse event to take place at Pacific Cafe will have happened on April 30.

I have lived in Edmonton for 32 years. Every two years I take a vacation to visit family in Australia or Vietnam, but it is always wonderful to enjoy my “staycation” here in McCauley.

I jog along on the streets in the early morning. In the evening I dine and listen to live music in restaurants with relaxed atmospheres. I enjoy my vacation where I reside and work here in McCauley and I would highly recommend others do too. You have the world here in McCauley.

Originally from Vietnam, Nhan lives in McCauley. She owns Pacific Cafe and Cooking School on 10874 97 Street and is involved with Revitalization and the Multicultural Health Brokers.
