ABCs of Funny Situations with Students
As a volunteer at ABC Head Start I have encountered some pretty funny four and five year olds.
The first day of class this year I told a little boy to go to the carpeted area and put on his indoor shoes. He went over to the carpet and very neatly placed both indoor shoes on the carpet. He came back to me and proudly pointed to what he had done. I felt rather mean when I had to tell him that I really meant that he should put on his indoor shoes on his feet when he was on the carpet.
Another time, I had noticed that a little boy was being picked up by his mother when classes finished. I asked him if his mother would be picking him up today. He replied, “My mother doesn’t pick me up. She just puts me down.”
These are such sweet kids and I feel privileged to have the opportunity every year to be their friend. Bravo ABC Head Start.
Note: ABC Head Start is a wonderful organization. It is a free early learning program for families with low incomes. You can find out more by phoning (780) 461-535 or go to www.abcheadstart.org. Children truly get a “head start” and are well prepared to tackle the next step in their education: kindergarten.
