Cook’s Corner

Want to know what owning 600 cookbooks tastes like?

Paul and Jackie are the team behind Cook’s Corner at 111 Avenue and 92 Street. “Coffee and the love” fuel Jackie’s desire to stay in business.

They bought the building in 2004. Paul was in broadcasting until 2010 after 30 years in the business. He is active on various boards and committees for downtown business associations, farmer’s markets, The United Way, and various municipal and provincial political campaigns. Jackie continues her stride, producing products for Bon Ton Bakery and Mandolin Books, as well as her own products under their Cook’s Corner label, sold locally and throughout the city. Her unique recipes for Rhubarb Habanero Ketchup, Jalapeno Relish, Spicy Strawberry Spread – just to name a few – are some of the best foods made here in Edmonton, with ingredients that are sourced here in the city as well.

Their business continues to grow, with new and innovative ideas: pretzel making and beer tasting with a local brewery, sushi and empanada cooking and tasting classes, corporate events, and individually designed “heat and eat” menu options. They do business with local producers, farms, and cattle companies. “Anyone who buys from me, I buy from them,” says Jackie.

Why McCauley? There are so many reasons: the building had the guts they needed. They also lived nearby in Spruce Avenue, and now are able to live above the shop – easy commute, close to home, and they feel supported by other local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Both Jackie and Paul believe in the strength and vibrancy of McCauley and Downtown Edmonton, and speak to the dangers and disadvantages of suburban living and urban sprawl. They have a vision of Cook’s Corner and the future of McCauley – a community of commerce, art, leisure, small people-owned businesses, and of course, good food. Give Jackie a call at (780) 479-8175. Their menu awaits! www.cooks-corner.ca
