Crome Trends and Statistics

The midpoint of the year has arrived. This creates an excellent opportunity for us to look back at the year and examine crime trends. We can anticipate and plan for what is to come with the rest of the year.

The eight crimes tracked were decided by our former Police Chief Mike Boyd and consist of homicides, sexual assaults, assaults, robberies, break and enters, theft from autos, theft of autos, and theft over $5,000.

We have seen reductions in crime since last year. Overall, we have observed a 22% reduction in the eight crime indicators. The largest decreases were seen in assaults (26%), theft from auto (38%) and theft of auto (26%). Everything else has remained consistent with the statistics from 2010.

Last year we concentrated our efforts on the above mentioned issues as they were the predominant problem. We will continue to do so again this year in hopes of reducing the crimes yet again.

These reductions are a result of the combined efforts of the Edmonton Police and the community members in Boyle Street and McCauley. It is with your help that we will continue to reduce crime.

With that, I encourage you to continue to report crime and suspicious activity when you see it. Also continue to use your community – the more positive influences on a community the better as this helps to discourage the negative element from setting roots.

Thank you all for continuing to read my articles and we will talk again soon.
