Hello Neighbours!
There are several definitions for the word “neighbour” but I think the one that is most accurate in regards to community leagues is the following:
neighbour [ney-ber] – noun: a person or persons who shows kindliness or helpfulness toward his or her fellow humans. (Dictionary.com)
The Boyle Street Community League works hard to be a good neighbour. What will help the community league continue to grow and keep moving forward? We hope it will be the kindliness and helpfulness from our community members. The BSCL values the input and feedback from the residents in the neighbourhood. What programs would you like to see? Do you have concerns or suggestions? Do you have interests and skills that you would like to share?
The Abundant Communities Initiative for Boyle Street will be going into high gear in the next few months as our Block Coordinator and all the hard working Volunteers get out and about in the neighbourhood and connecting with community residents. If you would like to be part of the Abundant Community Initiative, contact the BSCL for more information.
Our snow bank ice rink had some challenges this year due to the weather. We did have some skating lessons and we are hoping to get a few more days yet if Mother Nature cooperates. If you are an outdoor rink enthusiast we would love to have you join the “ice team” for next year. Now is when we start the planning for next year!
In January we welcomed our new Facility Coordinator, Christine. She brings great experiences and skills from the non-profit sector and an enthusiasm for neighbourly spirit. We encourage you to stop and say hello if you are in the Plaza.
Our facility was host to some great events in February. On Family Day we worked with Thrive Family Church to host a fabulous event with great activities open to all residents in the community. Another great event we saw at the plaza was the Edmonton Resilience Festival during the first weekend in February and the Quarters Arts hosted another wonderful Cabaret with great entertainment. If you haven’t come out to enjoy the QA Cabaret it is a great time for all and happens on the first Friday of the month.
Our Seniors Ballroom dancing is winding up soon so make sure to drop by with your dancing shoes before we finish for the season (third Friday of every month).
Our Board meetings are on the third Tuesday of every month at the Boyle Street Plaza (9538 103A Avenue) at 6 p.m. and we welcome all. The Boyle Street Community League’s Annual General Meeting will be held on March 17 at 7 p.m. at the Plaza. Memberships for BSCL are $5 for single membership and $10 for Family.
For information on any of our programs or events open to our neighbours in Boyle Street and surrounding communities, go to our website at boylestreetcl.com or call (780) 426-9264.
Karen is a resident of Boyle Street and the Secretary of the BSCL.
