June 9 and 10 was an exciting weekend for the McCauley U12 Thunder. The team participated in ENZSA’s “Summer Sizzler” tournament, winning all four games to claim GOLD in their division. In spite of the rain, wind, and even a bit of hail, the team worked hard together, making some beautiful plays, amazing passes, and great shots on net.

Thanks to coach Dan Glugosh and his assistant coaches Marshall Hopkins and Tim Leddy, for all their enthusiasm and hard work. Thanks to the parents for rides, snacks, and umbrellas. Thanks to the McCauley Community League for “footing the tournament bill”, and a special thanks to E4C, who lent us their “School Lunch” van to drive kids back and forth to the field.

The McCauley Community League runs an outdoor soccer program for kids age 3-11. Occasionally we have a U14 team as well. Our teams are registered through the ENZSA, Edmonton North Zone Soccer Association, which is also associated with ASA, Alberta Soccer Association and EMSA (Edmonton Minor Soccer Association). Our coaches are generally parents who volunteer their time and energy, working with teams that range from nine kids per roster in U6 and Little Tykes program, to 16 players in U12.

McCauley has a wonderful mix of families from different cultures, and some kids who were just “born” to play soccer. One of these is the amazing Hanson Boakai, who prior to playing “Extreme” Club Soccer, played U12 and U14 for the McCauley Vipers, under coach Rick Fodchuk. Earlier this spring, Hanson made the Canadian U17 Team. We congratulate him and wish him all the best.

We are always looking for coaches for future teams – we seem to have the kids, but not always enough coaches. If you are interested in coaching for the 2013 Season, you can contact Grace Kuipers, Director of Soccer for McCauley, at

Congratulations again to the McCauley Thunder! We are very proud of you.
