Ukrainian Art Spring Exhibit
Spring Exhibit – 200th Anniversary of Taras Shevchenko, world famous Ukrainian poet, artist, and humanist, featuring his works and memorabilia. Also featuring an Easter bake sale, workshops, and light lunch. April 5, 10 – 5 p.m., April 6, 12 – 4 p.m. Concert both days from 1-3 p.m. Ukrainian National Federation Hall,10629 – 98 Street. Admission by donation.
This exhibit marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko. It is being presented by the Ukrainian Women’s Organization of Canada – Edmonton Branch, the Ukrainian Museum of Canada – Alberta Branch and the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada Museum – Edmonton Eparchy.
Taras Shevchenko’s literary works have been translated into over 100 languages including Bulgarian, Czech, English, French, German, Japanese, Kazakh, Lithuanian, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Spanish and even 22 languages of the people of India.
He was also known for his work as a master painter and illustrator.
Monuments to Taras Shevchenko have been erected in Australia, Canada, Checz Republic, China, France, Georgia, Paraguay, Poland, Ukraine, and the United States.
He is celebrated worldwide for defending the rights of all peoples to freedom, of human dignity, of women, of Jews, and stressed the importance of education, tradition, and heritage.
