Upcoming AGM and Programs

Hello Boyle Streeters!

The BSCL Board has been busy preparing for our upcoming AGM on March 15 (7 p.m. at the Boyle Street Plaza). The Community League Board has had a year with many changes and we are looking forward to another exciting year. At the AGM we will be reviewing our year, discussing some upcoming events and programs, and holding elections. If you are interested in getting involved in your community, walk, run, ride your bike, take the bus, or drive your car down to the Plaza and say hello – we would love to see you! Look in the April edition of BMC News for the all the action updates from our AGM!

Are you interested in gardening? Perhaps growing vegetables to feed you and your family or maybe just some flowers to enjoy? The Community League is in the process of negotiating some plots of land in the neighbourhood – all we need are some dedicated green thumbs who are members of the League and are willing to get their hands dirty helping to build the garden. If you are interested, please contact us at info@boylestreetcl.com or karenbscl@gmail.com.

The Boyle Street and McCauley neighbourhoods are very walkable and very beautiful neighbourhoods. One reason to put on your walking shoes and take a ramble is the Art TREX exhibition on now at the Boyle Street Plaza. Thanks to the generosity of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts and the Art Gallery of Alberta, the BSCL had the art installation “Echo Chamber” featuring art works by Brenda Kim Christiansen, Patrick Higgins, and Paddy (Patrick) Lamb during part of January and February. This exhibition explores concepts of realism and illusion, memory, and fragments of personal, cultural, and intuitive experience.

Another wonderful program we are collaborating on with one of our partners, Quarters Arts, is “GLOW.” GLOW is Boyle Street’s Walking Lantern Parade and is the inaugural illuminated night parade that will weave through the Boyle Street neighbourhood on the Spring Equinox, March 19 at 8 p.m. It will feature enormous animated lantern floats that are made by the community.

GLOW Lantern making workshops will take place at Boyle Street Plaza with our Artists-in-Residence Lynette Maurice and Cindi Zuby. Come down to the Plaza to help make a lantern. Please contact Quarters Arts for more information in regards to dates and times of the lantern making workshops.

Make sure to add our Web Page and Facebook page to your favorites for quick and easy reference to all out great programs and upcoming events! We look forward to seeing (and hearing from) you!
