AGM: Saturday, March 21

Hello McCauley. It’s March already, and this is a month full of preparation for the coming year. Soccer preparation has begun, and this year we have formed a small soccer committee with parents. We have a fuller report on this in this issue, but registration will be March 16 and 18 from 6-8 p.m. at McCauley Boys and Girls Club. Call Grace Kuipers for more info or to join the soccer committee at (780) 421-4363. Let’s work together to keep our kids heathy and active!

Shortly after Christmas, 28 of our neighbours signed a request for a meeting to discuss some of their questions around the running of our rink. The League has agreed to this meeting and will post the questions asked and the League’s answers on our website and Facebook page. Be sure to check it out so you’re informed.

On Saturday, March 21, the McCauley Community League will hold its Annual General Meeting starting at 2:00 pm. This year, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church has opened their space to us, and we look forward to gathering as a community in their fellowship hall. St. John’s is located across from the skating rink at 10759 96 Street. Childcare and refreshments will be provided.

At our AGM this year, we plan to have a celebration of some of our neighbours who make our neighbourhood thrive. We’ll be sharing some of our stories from this past year, and looking at some of the work that is still ahead for us. This year, your board is presenting some much needed updates to our bylaws. Phil O’Hara has an article in this issue spelling out some of the major changes. We’ll also be holding a vote on the future of the EDLC Labour Day BBQ in McCauley. The MCL board is neutral on the future of this BBQ, but we strongly believe the community should decide its future. So come have your say!

And, of course, we will have our elections. We need your help appointing a strong and diverse group of people that will represent our neighbourhood well. Perhaps you or someone you know is interested in helping make our neighbourhood strong and healthy. Stand up to serve on the board, or join one of the league’s working groups. We have a lot of gifted people in this neighbourhood with a lot of great ideas and perspectives. Come join us as we listen, learn from each other, and work together to make McCauley a community we are all proud to belong to.

If you have any questions for us, or are looking for ways to help out, we are eager to hear you. Check out our website for resources and upcoming events: www.mccauleycl.com. Look us up on Facebook, or email us at mccauleycommunityleague2014@gmail.com. Or, you can stop by and visit us at our board meetings. We meet the first Tuesday of every month from 7-10 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club. See you at the AGM!

Mike is the President of the McCauley Community League.
