Summer with the Fringe
After a seemingly endless season of winter, we are entering the best season to get out and enjoy everything Edmonton has to offer. It is no wonder we are called Festival City as our city explodes with festivals that can match everyone’s interests.
Personally, I have one favourite: the Edmonton International Fringe Theatre Festival. The Fringe is going on year 30! It attracts crowds estimated at 450,000 visitors over the 10 day run! Showing true Edmonton appreciation, this world renowned festival could not be made possible without the help of volunteers. The Fringe can place a volunteer no matter what their ability – plus, the perks are fantastic!
The atmosphere alone is uplifting, and you become a part of what makes Edmonton unique: its diversity, acceptance, and appreciation of those who like to give. This year, the Fringe runs from August 11-21, Volunteers can apply by calling the volunteer hotline at (780) 409-1923.
I personally have enjoyed being a Fringe volunteer several times and have made lifelong connections and friendships, and been able to see some of the most original talent ever! Plus, every volunteer gets a free t-shirt and all Fringe volunteers when wearing their t-shirt can ride ETS free to and from the event!
Giving of yourself, feeling appreciated, and seeing some of the world’s best talent in the best season in Edmonton – what could be more appreciative and rewarding! Plus, who can resist the green onion cakes? Believe me, it will be a lifelong great memory! So get your Fringe on!
