Another Season Begins!

This year it is my tenth year being evolved with the McCauley community skating rink, and every year in November I get very excited knowing we are no more than a month away from the 2012/13 outdoor skating season.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the weather cooperates and we will be able to open on December 1 or even earlier. This season the skating rink will once again be open to the community seven days a week when the weather permits. Hours of operation will be Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri. 4:30-9:30 p.m.; Wed. 5:30-9:30 p.m.; Sat. 5-8 p.m.; and, Sunday 1-8 p.m. David Prodan from E4C will be running one program: hockey lessons for kids every Wednesday from 4-5:30 p.m. (please contact David at (780) 424-2870 for information). David is also working on a Saturday program in partnership with the City of Edmonton and will hopefully have more information in the very near future. Lastly, I am happy that the second annual Frostival will be back. The date and time for this event will be posted soon.

The fourth annual McCauley Community Downtown Beat Cops hockey game will be happening in December. This event has been such a huge success, bringing our community kids together with the Edmonton City Police downtown beat cops for a fun shinny hockey game. The annual Family Day skating rink party will be taking place in February. It is a wonderful event that brings our community together for a fun, family-filled day at the rink. Skates will be available seven days a week and a big thank you goes out to Sports Central for all the skates. There is also free skate sharpening available at the rink.

I would like to thank the McCauley Community League and the Inner City Youth Development Association for all your support in making sure this facility is available to our community and surrounding areas.

Keep your eyes on BMC News for more information on the above events and more events during the 2012/13 skating season. If you are interested in volunteering for any of the programming at the rink or have any questions please contact me at (780) 729-4363. See you at the rink!
