Talks to Improve Labour Day BBQ

Members of the McCauley Community League Board met in June with the Edmonton and District Labour Council to discuss strategies to improve the Labour Day BBQ held in Giovanni Caboto Park. At the AGM in March, League members agreed through a vote that the BBQ should be held in the park.

However, at the AGM and during a “community conversation” the League hosted last November, some residents were critical of how the event was staged. The meeting with the Labour Council, which hosts the event, was held to talk about these concerns.

The concerns discussed with the Labour Council included: security during and after the event; parking on the streets around the park; garbage on the site during and after the event; participants asking to use washrooms in nearby businesses; and better staging of the food lines.

Phil is the Vice President of the McCauley Community League.
